Intertextuality in Medieval Slavonic Literature: Apocalypse of Pseudo- Methodius and The Legend of the Twelve Fridays Scripta & e-Scripta vol. 19, 2019 floyd Tue, 10/08/2019 - 14:11 Keiko Mitani The purpose of this paper is to examine the intertextual relationship in the medieval Slavonic texts, focusing on the impact of Apocalypse of Pseudo-Methodius (further, Apocalypse) on an apocryphal story titled The Legend of the Twelve Fridays. It will be argued that the influence of the former on the formation of a Slavonic recension of the latter was much more significant than has been considered. Furthermore, the paper will discuss the possibility of the existence of an early Slavonic version of Apocalypse, out of which the so-called “interpolated recension” was later created.
